Matt Ryan Mahin was born November 23, 1977 to Richard Jay and Vicky Jo Conley Mahin at Beloit, Kansas. His courageous 1 ½ year battle with lung cancer ended Sunday afternoon, October 7, 2012 at the Mitchell County Hospital at the age of 34 years.
A 1996 graduate of Jewell High School, Matt went on to study engineering at Kansas State University. He loved academics with high level math courses being among his favorites. He had a keen, brilliant mind and loved to read, especially history and the Civil war. While Matt enjoyed school, his greatest love was the family farm near Randall. There, he was a consummate perfectionist who was always in tune with the land. When not busy with farm work, he could be found in the midst of a woodworking project in his workshop or lifting weights.
Matt was a kind hearted person who loved the outdoors. He was always gracious to others. His brave, strong willed demeanor enabled him to see through the depths of his illness and into glory. He loved sports, and although he attended Kansas State University, he made the great conversion to become a KU Jayhawk.
He was a member of the Christian Church.
Matt was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Loren and Doris Mahin.
Left to mourn his passing and celebrate his life are his parents Vicky and Jay Mahin of Randall; his beloved sister Tara Mahin of Topeka; maternal grandparents Darrell and Shirley Conley of Beloit; a host of numerous relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM Friday, October 12, 2012 at First Christian Church. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Prairie Cemetery near Randall. Memorials may be given to the First Christian Church, Solomon Valley Hospice or the Mitchell County Regional Medical Foundation. Visitation will be from 9 AM until 8 PM Thursday at the McDonald Funeral Home.
