Maurice Lesage

August 4, 1930 — October 7, 2010

Robert Maurice LeSage was born to Robert Hector and Icel Faye McGaughey LeSage on August 4, 1930 on a farm three miles southwest of Scottsville. He went to sleep and awoke in Heaven late Thursday, October 7, 2010 at his home in Scottsville, ending a life of 80 years, two months and four days.

Maurice, as everyone knew him, moved to Scottsville in 1934 and lived with his mother and aunts and attended Scottsville School, graduating in 1948.
On June 11, 1950, he married Virginia Lee Spicher at Beloit, Kansas and to this union were born four children Jerry, Alice, Kay, and Joe. They made their home on the east edge of Scottsville.

Maurice enjoyed farming and rural life. He farmed with his uncle Ralph Lane, and following Ralph's death worked on construction and elevators until 1960 when he went to work at the COOP Elevator in Scottsville until 1973 when he took over the Howard Abernethy farming operations. Health forced him to retire in 1995, and he enjoyed working for Alan Snyder and other area farmers as well as taking care of the Scottsville Cemetery.

A kind, fun-loving, person, Maurice enjoyed life. His easy going personality enabled him to make friends. He loved his family and was always there for them. When not busy, he retreated to his workshop where he enjoyed woodworking.

Maurice was a member of the Scottsville Community Church and the former Scottsville Masonic Lodge.

His wife Virginia died in 2002. In addition, he was preceded in death by his parents, one son Jerry, one brother Kenneth "Doc" LeSage and one grandson Justin Klima.

Left to mourn his passing and celebrate his life are his children Alice Klima and husband Brad of Belleville, Kay Newton of Beloit, Joe LeSage and wife Angela of Shawnee; brother in law Leroy Spicher of Paola; a half-brother Mike LeSage of Kansas; ten grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and a host of many relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be 10 AM Tuesday at the McDonald Funeral Home. Cremation will follow the service and private burial of the ashes will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to Teens for Christ or the Scottsville Community Church. Maurice will lie in state from 9 AM until 8 PM Monday at the McDonald Funeral Home.
