Maxine M. Jones

Mabel Maxine Jones was born November 10, 1918 to Lauren J. and Alma Pernalda Olson Harper on a farm east of Glasco, Kansas. Her release from a lengthy illness came late Friday afternoon, December 31, 2010 at the age of 92 years at the Ottawa County Health Center Long Term Care Unit in Minneapolis, Kansas.
Maxine, as everyone who knew her, was raised on a farm east of Glasco. She attended school in Glasco and graduated from Glasco High School in 1937 with a Normal Training 2 year certificate to teach. She taught at Bohemian District 74 in Ottawa County for the 1937-1938 school term and at Harmony District 47 in Cloud County for the 1938-1939 school term.
It was on October 29, 1939 that she married Benton Benjamin Jones on her grandfather W.H. Harper farm near Glasco. Two children LeRoy and Janice were born to this union. They moved to a farm east of Glasco in 1942 and lived there until 1978 when they purchased their home in Glasco. They celebrated 62 years of married life together.
Maxine loved life and all that it entailed. She was a faithful and devoted wife to her beloved husband Benton and was always there to support him in his endeavors, including his passion for custom wheat harvesting from Texas to North Dakota. Maxine was always there for her family and enjoyed being an integral part of their lives. She loved the Glasco community and was always there to support community projects. Always cheerful and upbeat, Maxine enjoyed her many friends and neighbors.
She was a member of the Glasco United Methodist Church. In earlier years, she enjoyed teaching Sunday School classes.
Her husband Benton died in September, 2002. In addition, she was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved sister Jean Bonneau.
Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life are her children LeRoy Jones and wife Susan of Pratt, Kansas, Janice Cyr and husband Gail of Glasco; seven grandchildren LeRoy Jones Jr. (Carla), Haysville, KS, Mark Jones, Phoenix, AZ, Christopher Jones (Jennifer), Golden, CO, Jeffrey Jones (Amy), Pratt, KS, Tammy Cook (James)-Lindsborg, KS, Lisa Utterback (Tim), Salina, Michelle Rourke (Jason), Glasco eighteen great grandchildren and a host of many relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 PM Wednesday, January 5 at the First United Methodist Church in Glasco. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday at the Dean Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to the Church ro the Glasco Community Foundation.
