Mayme Glenice Edwards was born on August 26, 1942 in Manhattan, Kansas, the third of eight children. Her parents were the former Mayme Leneta Wines and Glen Vernon Edwards. She attended grade school after they moved to Beloit, KS. They later moved to Barnard, KS where her father got a job as a meat cutter in a packing plant. She remained in Barnard to attend High School when the family moved again for a new job.

She served as a live-in caretaker for an elderly lady and worked as a telephone operator and restaurant waitress during her high school years. She was also a cheerleader and basketball player all through high school. After graduation in 1960, she went to Kansas City to work for Hallmark Cards. However, she soon returned to Beloit to help her mother care for one of her brothers who had been injured in an automobile accident. While in Beloit, she became employed at the Professional Photographers Color Corporation, where she learned all aspects of color portrait production. With her skill and work ethic, she rose to assistant manager.

In the spring of 1970, a young man had graduated from Kansas State University with a degree and a commission in the US Air Force. John Emmot came to work at the plant to fill time until he was to enter active duty. He and Glenice went on several dates and they continued to correspond after he went to Denver, CO for training. By Christmas, he had asked her to marry him and she accepted. In February 1971, he left for a 12-month tour in Thailand. Glenice continued to work at the plant. Halfway through John’s tour, he suggested that they get married in Hawaii, and Glenice agreed. They were married at Ft DeRussy, HI on August 16, 1971, in the presence of John’s parents. After some sightseeing on Oahu and Kauai, Glenice and the folks returned to Beloit and John returned to Thailand. They had orders to Offutt AFB in Omaha, NE when John returned in February 1972.

They bought a two-bedroom home near the base and Glenice began a new phase of her life. To fill the time, Glenice became a Red Cross volunteer, a thrift shop volunteer and a member of the Officer’s wives club. It wasn’t long before she started taking classes for a college degree at Creighton University. The separate schedules taxed the single car and Glenice soon had a new yellow Toyota Corolla. The family grew to include Jake, a white, blue-eyed cat from Kansas. Much to the happiness of all of the in-laws, it became apparent in the spring of 1974 that Glenice was pregnant. Robert Lewis was born on September 6, 1974, at 9 lbs, 10 ½ oz, perhaps a month or so after he was due. Glenice became a full time mother. That was a job she maintained until he started school.

Omaha was followed by Colorado Springs, CO, then North Bay, Ontario, Canada, then Panama City, FL before returning to the Colorado house when they retired in 1990. Along the way, Glenice held jobs in retail sales and administration and bookkeeping for a real estate company, served as a substitute teacher, and volunteered in schools where Bob attended. While in Florida, she also completed her Associate’s Degree in Accounting. Bob was a junior in High School when they moved back to CO. He would attend Doherty High School, the largest school in District 11.

As mothers do, she became a volunteer in the library at Doherty. Once again, her organizational skills and work ethic came to the fore. She managed text books and AV equipment for the school. She always supported Doherty sporting events and joined her coworkers in Bunco games. When there was an opening for the administrative assistant to the principal, Glenice applied and was selected. Glenice was proud to support principal Dr. Jill Martin, and they shared many great achievements. When Dr. Martin retired, Glenice stayed and provided continuity for the administration until she retired in 2013. In the meantime, Bob married Laura Barker in September, 2008, and Glenice got two instant granddaughters to spoil; another job in which she excelled. She enjoyed attending as many of the girls events as possible, including sports and musical programs.

In their retirement, John and Glenice made many happy memories with each other and family, from the day-to-day watching Rockies baseball and Broncos football games. She was always a great baker and scratch cook. That continued in retirement and she loved hosting family gatherings on weekends and holidays.

She went to heaven on October 17, 2026 following a short illness. Glenice was a beloved wife, mother, and friend. She will be missed by all who knew her.
