Melody K. Cooper

May 9, 1969 — November 15, 2012

Melody Kay Cooper, 43, passed from this life on Thursday, November 15, 2012 surrounded by her adoring family at the Mitchell County Hospital Health Care Systems, Beloit, Kansas.
She was born May 9, 1969 to Oris and Corrine (Winterberg) Thompson in Concordia, KS. Melody spent her childhood in Beloit then moved to Belleville, KS where she graduated from high school in 1987. She returned to Beloit to work at Meyer Chiropractic Center for a short time and then for Dr. Bren Myers, optometrist. It was there that she met and later married her husband of 18 years, Bruce Cooper, on May 21, 1994. Their two wonderful children were born to this union, Alex Michael and Porsche Marie. They are the light and love of their parents' lives.
Melody was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer in March of 2006. She has undergone numerous rounds of chemotherapy and radiation in attempts to keep this disease at bay. She never complained, but instead asked to try any treatment that might allow her more time to raise her children. Melody would want people to honor her life by conducting self-exams and mammograms.
Besides her spending time with her children, husband, family and friends, Melody enjoyed wonderful family vacations, weekends on their boat at the lake, going to her children's activities and decorating their home inside and out for Christmas. She most appreciated being able to stay home to raise her children.
Melody's strength came from her faith and knowledge of an eternal home in Heaven. Her family shared a special day on August 19, 2012 being baptized, re-confirmed and becoming members of the Beloit First United Methodist Church.
Preceding Melody in death was her grandparents, sister, Rita Thompson Ledbetter, mother-in-law, Lois Schoen, and great-nephew, Tanner Roberg.
Left to celebrate her life and mourn her passing are her husband, Bruce, children, Alex and Porsche, parents, Oris and Corrine Thompson, sisters, Priscilla (Brian) Stillwell and Tammy (Steve) Krier, father-in-law, Howard Cooper and his wife Patty, brother-in-law, Mike Cooper, sister-in-law, Glada Cooper, nieces and nephews: Kristi (Jeremy) Adams, Brandon Stillwell, Amanda (Joe) Thiessen, Ashton Krier, Alijah Krier, Michelle (Trenton) Harr, Pepper (Jeff) Roberg and great nieces: Dairiahna Harr, Courtney & Lexie Roberg and Oakleigh Adams; all of Beloit.
Melody's playful and energetic character made her a favorite aunt to her nieces and nephews. Melody's kind and generous spirit made her a true and beloved friend to many.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Monday, November 19 at the Beloit First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 2-8 PM Sunday with the family present from 6-7 PM at the McDonald Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to the Church or American Cancer Society.
