Michael Wayne Brayton, 65, of Glasco, passed away on June 9, 2026, at Salina Regional Medical Center.
He was born March 21, 1961, to Wayne and Nancy (Orebaugh) Brayton in Abilene, Kansas. The family made their home on a farm near Glasco when Mike was in grade school.
As a teenager, Mike was active in school sports and graduated with the Glasco High School Class of 1979. He also played the drums for several local bands. Following high school, Mike graduated from Cloud County Community College.
Mike farmed and raised cattle in the Glasco area. Early in his career, he enjoyed working on a ranch in California for a few years.
On September 12, 1992, Mike and Susan Link were united in marriage. Together, they welcomed two children, Carrie and Grady.
Volunteering in his community was important to Mike. He served as a volunteer firefighter with the Glasco Rural Fire Department for more than 30 years, spending much of the time as fire chief. Mike was proud of the department's growth and accomplishments during those years.
He was also a former member of the local Lions Club and volunteered at the Glasco Country Club. Most recently, Mike helped with the annual Glasco High Alumni Golf Tournament over Memorial weekend.
Mike's greatest joy was watching his children participate in sports and other activities at Glasco schools. He treasured being "Papa" to his only grandchild, Monty. Monty often accompanied Papa to check on the cows.
Mike was preceded in death by his daughter, Carrie; daughter-in-law, Faith (Peters) Brayton; and nephew, Kale Cauthon.
He is survived by his wife, Susan, of the home; son, Grady, and grandson, Monty, of Glasco; his parents, Nancy and Wayne Brayton, of Glasco; brother, David (Kyra) Brayton, Oak Grove, Missouri; sister, Denise (Jim) Cauthon, of Wakarusa; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Funeral services will be at 11 AM Tuesday, June 16 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Glasco. Visitation will take place before the service beginning at 10:30 AM at the Parish Hall. Memorials may be given to the Glasco Fire Department or the Glasco Country Club.
