Michael R. Waddell

June 30, 1954 — March 22, 2017

Michael Raye Waddell was born on June 30, 1954 in Beloit, KS. He departed this life at his home in Beloit, KS on March 22, 2017 at the age of 62.
Mike was raised by his parents Gene and Iris Waddell at their family home on Walnut St. He attended Beloit Schools and graduated from Beloit High School, class of 1973 with a dual welding degree from NCK Area Vocational School in Beloit. Also, he received certification on Case International Harvester products in Racine, WI and was certified in air conditioning as well. All of this training, plus natural skills and ability led Mike to become an Ag instructor at the area Vo-Tech school. This was a position he enjoyed because it involved a lot of hands on work, expertise, and working with young students. At the time of his death, Mike was a proficient mechanic at WT Repair in Beloit. Using his knowledge and experience, Mike's work was valued by many local farmers and ranchers.
He will be remembered for his many hobbies and skills. Like his late father, Mike loved his gun collection and enjoyed adding to it. He liked going to the shooting range with any of his children. Riding his motorcycle was a favorite pastime too. He routinely shared his snacks with the WT Repair shop pets and fed stray cats on Pine St. He possessed good carpentry and woodworking skills, and his generosity in helping others with mechanical issues is notable. But, probably more than anything, his straight forward, humorous, and affectionate candor come to mind.
He was previously married to Buffy Wendel Kadel, and this union was blessed with six children, Jennifer, David, Scott, Elizabeth, Rachel, and Haley.
His beloved son, Scott, and his parents Gene and Iris Waddell preceded him in death along with two brother-in-laws, Dick Gary and Steve Wrench, two sister-in-laws, Jan Waddell and Linda Waddell. Left to mourn his passing and celebrate his life are his children, Jennifer Waddell- Roper of Salina, David Waddell of Beloit, Elizabeth Costine and husband Phil of Riverview FL, Rachel Waddell of Austin, TX, and Haley Waddell of Beloit.
In addition, Mike was blessed with six grandchildren, Allison, Lindsay, Lukas, Taleon, Johnathan and Katherine with another grandchild on the way.
Remembering him forever are his five siblings, Julie Gary of Hutchinson, Pat Waddell of La Paz, Mexico, Eric Waddell of Salina, Teresa Wrench of Lindsborg, and Cindy Grisham and husband Troy of Arlington, TX and a host of nieces and nephews including life long friends.
A good man with a big heart, Mike will be missed dearly.

Graveside memorial services will be at 11 AM Friday, May 19 at Elmwood Cemetery in Beloit. Cremation has taken place & there will be no visitation. A potluck luncheon will follow the service at the Eagles Club in Beloit. Memorials may be given to the Post Rock Humane Society at PO Box 131, Beloit, KS 67420
