Mildred M Kuhlman

November 16, 1928 — August 13, 2025

Mildred Marie Kuhlman, 96, peacefully went home to her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 13, 2025, at Nicol Home in Glasco, Kansas.

Born November 16, 1928, in Macon, Nebraska, Mildred was the daughter of a Lutheran minister. Her childhood was one of faith and change, as her family moved to several states before finally settling in Athol, Kansas. It was there she met the love of her life, Allen "Shorty" Kuhlman. The two were married on February 6, 1947, beginning a 49-year journey together and raising two children, Richard and Shirley.

Mildred's life was a tapestry of creativity, generosity, and deep faith. A gifted artist, she poured her heart into oil and watercolor paintings that captured the beauty she saw in the world. She was equally at home in her garden, where her green thumb brought flowers to life, or with a good book in hand, exploring stories and ideas. Her collections, each gathered with care, reflected her curiosity and love for beautiful things.

One of her greatest joys was serving others. For many years, she lovingly crafted baby layettes for Lutheran World Relief, blessing countless families she would never meet. Her unique Bible lesson on sea shells, rich with symbolism and Scripture, was shared in churches throughout Kansas and Nebraska, leaving a lasting impression on those who heard it.

Mildred was preceded in death by her beloved Shorty, her son Richard, and her grandson Eric. She leaves behind a legacy of love and faith in the hearts of her daughter Shirley (Mike), daughter-in-law Joan, grandson Matt (Holli), granddaughters Sherri (John) and Julie (Greg), and great-grandchildren Raegen, Gage, Grady, Coulter, Alex, Thomas, Drew, and Ben.

Mildred will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her boundless creativity, and the gentle way she touched the lives of everyone she met.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, August 19, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church, Beloit, Kansas.  Memorials may be given to Lutheran World Relief or Nicol Home.
