Mildred M. Mcdill

Mildred Mary McDill was born September 19, 1913 to Elmer and Salinda Beardslee Olson on a farm near Lebanon, Kansas. She departed this life of 97 years, 2 months, and 28 days Friday morning, December 17, 2010 at Hilltop Lodge in Beloit, Kansas.

She attended the same country school that her parents had. She graduated from Smith Center High School in 1931.

On March 7, 1934, Mildred and Clifford McDill of Burr Oak were married at the Methodist Church Parsonage in Mankato, Kansas. Three daughters Mildred Louise, Margaret Jolene and Donna LaVerne were born to this union.

Mildred and her family lived on a farm near Mankato for several years. She enjoyed farm life, especially her flock of chickens and large garden. In 1951, the McDill's moved to Beloit and Mildred worked as a sales clerk at Duckwall's for twenty-seven years, retiring in 1978.

Mildred was an excellent seamstress and loved working on quilting and embroidery projects.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6242 Auxiliary.

Her husband Clifford died in 1997. In addition, she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Oral and John Olson; a sister Arlene Jenkins; two daughters Donna in 1949 and Louise in 1994; a son-in-law Major Edwin Welch in 1969, a great grandson Joshua Clifford Fletcher in 1988 and a granddaughter Mary Susan Westlie Gulick in 2000.

Survivors are her daughter Jolene Westlie of Wichita; a sister Aldena Smith of Texas; seven grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren

Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Tuesday, December 21 at the McDonald Funeral Home followed by burial in Mount Hope Cemetery near Mankato. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM Monday with the family present from 4:00 - 6:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Hilltop Lodge or Solomon Valley Hospice.
