Myrna E. Van Horn

Myrna Elaine Shepherd Van Horn was born August 8, 1928 at Galloway Hospital in Anthony, KS, to Harry and Enola (Bruch) Shepherd. She passed away Friday, September 23, at Hospice of Salina, after suffering a massive stroke Sept. 16th
The family lived in the Kingman area until 1931 when they moved to Great Bend. Myrna graduated from Great Bend High School in 1946 and attended Ottawa University.
Myrna married Max George Van Horn, September 4, 1949 in Great Bend. The couple farmed in Franklin County 6½ years then moved to a farm in Jewell County in 1956. Dairy farming was the main occupation followed by a Gelbvieh cattle operation. The family was busy with extension and 4H work. As a member of the American Baptist Church, Myrna worked with women from various churches on ABWM projects. Max and Myrna moved to Eaglecrest in Salina in 2008.
Her husband Max survives. Also a son, Stephen (Mitzie), Denison; and a daughter Crystal (Bob) Obee, Kinsley. Three grandchildren, Barry (Jenia), Shawnee; Denise (Larry) Bowles, Topeka; Tony (Heather), Colorado Springs, CO; and six great-granddaughters.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Monday, September 26 at McDonald Funeral Home in Beloit followed by burial in Prairie Grove Cemetery in Cawker City. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Gideons International, Hospice of Salina, or the Cawker City Baptist Church.
