Nadyne Marie Copp was born on January 29, 1941 in Hays, Kansas, the youngest of 13 children to Peter and Anna Schaefer Schuvie. She died after a lengthy battle with cancer early Sunday, March 18, 2012 at Via Christi-St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas at the age of 71 years, 1 month, and 20 days.
She grew up in the Hays area and attended school before graduating and attending Ft. Hays State University, where she received her Masters Degree in teaching.
In August 1964, she was united in marriage with James Copp. Two daughters, JaLynn and Jana were born to this union.
Nadyne touched the lives of many. In 1965 she embarked on a forty-one year teaching career. Thirty-seven of those years were spent teaching fourth grade at Beloit Elementary School. Many students found that she was one of their favorite teachers even though she was a strict disciplinarian.
She had many loves, the first one being her grandchildren. Many hours were spent reading books and playing games. She always made sure that no request made by them was ever denied.
Her friends were another important part of her life and she spent countless times playing Bridge, bunco, golf, and weekends at the lake. She had the gift of gab and didn't hesitate to keep everyone in line.
Nadyne never asked for much, but gave a lot. She was loved by all and the heart of her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; eight brothers, Leo, Adolph, Victor, Bill, Peter Jr., Gib, Tony, and Alfred; and three sisters, Eleanor Herzog, Milda Trimble, and Ann Sack.
Nadyne is survived by her husband Jim of the home; two daughters, JaLynn and her husband LJ Leatherman, and Jana Moore and her husband Russ, all of Topeka; one sister, Midge Koerner and her husband Vernon of Hays; four grandchildren, Kendall Leatherman, and Jace, Branen, and Maddox Moore; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 21 at the St. John's Catholic Church. A parish vigil service will be at 6:30 PM Tuesday at the McDonald Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 1 PM until the vigil service Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Mitchell County Regional Medical Foundation.
