Neva Howland

April 11, 1933 — December 26, 2018

Beloit

Neva June Alice (Bayes) Howland was born on April 11, 1933 in Teterville, KS to Chester and Olive (Ormsby) Bayes. Starting school in that area, they later moved to Independence, KS where she graduated from high school. She died on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at the Nicol Home in Glasco, KS at the age of 85.

On July 23, 1950 she married Charles W. MaGee and they had four children, and later divorced. On December 21, 1970, she married Raymond B. Howland Jr., who already had three children. Together, they had one more child.

Working a variety of careers throughout her life, she had many experiences. Some of her most notable were restaurant management/ownership, motel management, and "cottage mother" at the girl's industrial school in Beloit.

She loved square dancing with several competition champion trophies, sewing, needlepoint, and a variety of other crafts.

She enjoyed camping, being a member of several camping clubs, and meeting new people. Playing pitch, rummy, and marbles with friends and family gave her much delight. Having a quick wit packed with a heavy dose of sarcasm, she was ready to pounce when you played wrong, or messed up in general.

Even in the later years, the conversations were limited, but the sarcasm still seemed to jump out at you.

She loved collecting Coke memorabilia, antiques, or little odd things, whatever caught her eye.

Her greatest joy in life was her family, a total of 8 children; 25 grandchildren; 46 great grandchildren with another on the way; and 2 great-great grandchildren filled her heart.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Don; sisters, Thelma and Wilma; son-in-law, Tim Musgrove; and step-son, Jerry Howland.

Survivors include her husband Ray; sons, Ken (Jane) MaGee of Phoenix, AZ, William MaGee of Spring, TX, and Bud (Misty) Howland of Beloit; daughters, Roselyn (Dale) Sweaney of Sedan, KS and Kayla (Tim) Crossland of Paola, KS; step-son, Don (Luisa) Howland of Osborne; step-daughter, Dixie (Larry) Ward of Colony, KS; and the aforementioned grand, great, and great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10 AM Monday, December 31 at the Roberts Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4-8 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Solomon Valley Hospice.
