Neva Rebecca Litton was born May 13, 1921 to Harry Nelson and Mabel Anna Sarah Chor Bell on a farm near Lebanon, Kansas. She departed her productive life of 95 years Sunday evening, October 16, 2016 at Hilltop Lodge in Beloit, Kansas.
Neva and her twin sister, Eva, grew up on the farm and graduated from Lebanon High School. They attended Business College in Denver.
On March 27, 1940, Neva married Ralph Claude Litton. Five children Barbara, Nancy, James, Melvin, and Rebecca were born to this union. They farmed near Burr Oak and in 1957 moved to Asherville. Following Ralph's untimely death, Neva moved her young family to Beloit.
While in Beloit, Neva displayed her true colors of being a woman of great courage and resourcefulness. When the going was tough, Neva, in her very humble ways proved she was tougher and was always up for a challenge to overcome. She began working at the Lewis Home of the Aged and later became a houseparent at the Beloit Youth Center for many years where she touched many lives. Neva used her business skills and worked for crop insurance. When Neva need surgery, her daughter Nancy took her to Canada. She will be perpetually remembered as a hearty, loving, opinionated, frugal and resourceful person.
Besides her family, Neva loved fishing, bowling, and traveling. She, along with Eva and Verl enjoyed many vacations in their RV together, visiting all forty-eight mainland states. She also enjoyed her adventures to Scotland and South America.
Neva was preceded in death by her parents, twin sister Eva Mendenhall, brother George Bell, husband Ralph Litton and beloved daughter Barbara Joyce Litton.
Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life are her children Nancy Meiklejohn and husband Duncan of Independence, MO, James Litton and wife Betty of Beloit, Melvin Litton and wife Debra of Lawrence, Rebecca Crumbaker and husband David of Beloit; 13 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren with one enroute and many friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, October 22, 2016 at the McDonald Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Burr Oak Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Hilltop Lodge. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M. Friday at the McDonald Funeral Home.
