Nina Haney

July 5, 1917 — April 26, 2012

Nina Marie Haney was born on July 5, 1917 at Fredrick, Kansas, the daughter of Charles and Vera Jones Kyte. She died on Thursday, April 26, 2012 at the Golden Living Center in Downs, Kansas at the age of 94 years, 9 months, and 21 days.
She grew up and attended schools in Hutchinson through Junior College, and later taught in rural schools for four years in southern and western Kansas.
On June 2, 1941, she was united in marriage with Virgil A. Haney in Hutchinson. Four children were born to this union: Larry Eugene, Virginia Ann, Richard Alan, and Barbara Louise.
Nina had several passions: her family, ceramics, jewelry making, gardening-especially flowers, knitting, embroidery, and traveling. In 2011, she completed one of the things on her "bucket list" - Gary, Virginia, and Richard took her to San Antonio to see the Alamo and five old Spanish missions.
She was a flower judge at the Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson for several years.
Nina lived in Turon for 62 years. Her last nine years she lived with Virginia and Gary and supervised the creation of several flower gardens. She really loved to fly back to New York each fall to visit Richard and Julie, and see the fall foliage colors, short trips to points of interest and giant flea markets.
Nina will be greatly missed by her family, sisters and brothers of the Eastern Star, and the Methodist Church of Cawker City and the Community Church of Turon.
She was preceded in death by her husband Virgil in 1982; three grandsons; and one great grandson.
Nina is survived by her children, Larry Eugene (Linda Laird) of Hutchinson, Virginia Ann (Gary) Wilson of Cawker City, Richard Alan (Julie) of Carmel, New York, and Barbara Louise (Phil) Sell of Topeka; seven grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 3:00 PM Thursday, May 3 at the Cawker City United Methodist Church, and at 10:00 AM Friday, May 4 at the Turon Community Church, followed by burial in Turon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:30 PM until the service begins on Thursday at the Church. Memorials may be given to the Cawker City United Methodist Church or the Turon Community Church.
