Noel E. Gengler

October 24, 1938 — October 12, 2016

Noel Edwin Gengler was born October 24, 1938 to Frowin and Anna Schmidt Gengler at Beloit, Kansas.

He departed this life of 77 years early Wednesday morning, October 12, 2016 at Hilltop Lodge in Beloit, Kansas.

Noel's mother died when he was very young. He, along with his four brothers were lovingly raised by his aunt and uncle, Shirlie and Paul Schmidt. He was a lifetime resident of Beloit and graduated from Beloit High School in the Class of 1957.

On June 6, 1959 he was united in marriage to Josephine Frances "Jody" Peters at Beloit, Kansas. Five children Cynthia, Pamela, Theresa, Brian, and Thomas were born to this richly devoted union.

Noel was a kindhearted, hardworking man who did not know a stranger and made lasting friendships easily. He was an equipment operator II for the Kansas Department of Transportation for many years and took pride in keeping the highways safe. He became a locksmith and enjoyed helping many people. When not on the job, he could be found with his family. His leisure moments were happiest spent working with his gun collection, reloading shells, or talking with his many friends. He loved music and enjoyed singing his favorite Perry Como and Frank Sinatra songs. Known by many as "Santa Claus", he enjoyed being Santa's local representative at the American Legion and Eagles Christmas Parties for many years. Above all, he cherished his wife Jody and has longed to be with her since her death in 2007.

He faithfully served his country as a sergeant in the Kansas National Guard where he enjoyed the role of cook. Noel was a lifetime member of the Solomon Valley Aerie Chapter 3507 Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Noel was baptized into Christ in the Catholic Church.

His parents, beloved aunt and uncle Shirlie and Paul Schmidt, brother James Gengler, wife Jody, and son Brian Gengler preceded him in death.

Left to mourn his passing and celebrate his life are his children Cynthia Gengler of Wilcox, Nebraska, Pamela DeWoody and husband James of Riverside, Missouri, Theresa Adamson and husband Dennis of Wilcox, Nebraska, Thomas Gengler of Holdrege, Nebraska; brothers Paul Gengler and wife Roberta of Beloit, Leo Gengler of Florida, Patrick Gengler of Arizona; sister-in-law Maria Gengler of Delphos; four grandchildren, one great grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
