Norbert William Deneke was born on March 17, 1934 in Beloit, Kansas, the son of Will and Justina Gradig Deneke. He died peacefully on Friday, February 9, 2018 at Hilltop Lodge in Beloit at the age of 83 years, 10 months, and 23 days.
Norbert grew up on the family farm east of Beloit, and attended St. John's schools before graduating from St. John's High School. He went on to attend St. Benedictine in Atchison until he transferred to Kansas State University, where he earned his bachelor's degree in engineering.
He went to work for the Boeing Company as an engineer, and later went back to school, where he earned his Doctorate Degree. He returned to work for Boeing, living in both Wichita and Seattle before retiring in 1993.
Norbert enjoyed spending his spare time hunting, fishing, and trapshooting. He also loved travelling to Texas, Colorado, Wyoming, and Arizona, and often helped in the Kansas harvest fields.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, as well as several gun clubs.
Norbert was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Ed and Sylvester; and his sister, Rosella.
He is survived by his brother Bernard and wife Pat of Littleton, Colorado; sisters Eldora Cole of Russell and Matilda StGermaine of Peabody, Massachusetts; sister-in-law Rosemary Deneke of Beloit; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services will be at 10 AM Tuesday, February 13 at St. John's Catholic Church. A rosary service will be at 6 PM Monday, February 12 at the Roberts Family Funeral Home, and visitation will be from 1 PM until the rosary service begins. Memorials may be given to the Cornerstone Foundation or Solomon Valley Hospice.
