Norma Ann Fleming was born on March 13, 1926 on a farm near Beloit, Kansas, the daughter of Frank and Verna A. Briney Petterson. She died on Thursday, February 5, 2015 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit at the age of 88 years, 10 months, and 23 days.
Norma lived most of her life in the Beloit area, where she grew up and attended school.
On March 21, 1948, she was united in marriage to Charles W. Fleming in Concordia, Kansas. Three sons, Chuck, Danny, and Steve were born to this union. They were privileged to spend 62 years of married life together when he passed in June, 2010.
Norma worked for many years as a bookkeeper for Sunflower Manufacturing, and she also owned and operated the Fleming Liquor store for many years. Bowling was a great passion of hers, and she spent 49 years bowling for many teams in several tournaments, and was the bowling league secretary for most of those years. Another hobby that she enjoyed was collecting antiques with Charlie, as they spent many days attending sales and auctions. She and Charlie also spent many hours in the yard feeding the birds and squirrels, as well as catching the raccoons and possums to keep them away from the food. And they always enjoyed spending time with their family.
She was a very giving person, often donating to St. Jude's Children's Hospital and the Special Olympics, as she had a soft heart for children.
In addition to her husband Charlie, she was preceded in death by her parents; her son Chuck and his wife Carol; her grandson Brad; and three brothers, Charlie, Melvin, and Don.
Norma is survived by her two sons, Danny and his wife Lynn, and Steve, all of Beloit; one brother, Bob Petterson of Beloit; eight grandchildren, Chuck, Chad, Travis, Dustin, Ryan, Stephanie, Aaron, and Chelsea; six great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 2 PM Tuesday, February 10 at the Beloit First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 8 PM with family present from 6-7:30 PM Monday at the McDonald Funeral Home.
