Opal M. Giddings

October 19, 1915 — April 29, 2013

Opal Marie Giddings of Beloit passed away on Monday, April 29, 2013 at the age of 97. She was born on October 19, 1915, the daughter of Charles Henry and Myrtle Ann Landis Albert on the family farm southwest of Glen Elder. She graduated from Glen Elder High School and was a life-long resident of Beloit. She married Charles Edward "Eddie" Giddings in Beloit on March 26, 1938. Three children, Roger, Linda Sue, and Bradley were born to this union.

Opal loved life and up until a few years before Eddie's passing in 1998, they both enjoyed ballroom dancing wherever there was a dance. She played bridge, attended Beloit High School sporting events and even did a little fishing with Eddie in later time. She loved her family and friends. She was a member of the First Christian Church, and member and past president of both the Naomi Chapter Order of Eastern Star and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6242 Auxiliary in Beloit. In her post children-rearing years, she was the Magistrate Judge for Mitchell County, retiring in 1978.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, sister Thelma E. Slaven, brother Doyle P. Albert, and grandson Tyson G. Hudson.

Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life are two sons Roger (Judy) Giddings of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Bradley (Vicki) Giddings of McPherson, and one daughter Linda Sue Humphrey (Jim) of Medicine Lodge; nine grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter and a host of family and friends.

The family expresses their sincere appreciation and thanks to all the wonderful staff of Hilltop Lodge and Dr. Carl Fugate who have given their exceptional care during Opal's years at Hilltop Lodge. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to the First Christian Church of Beloit.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Thurday, May 2 at the McDonald Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 8 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
