Opal Leona Stoeber was born on November 12, 1921 in Alva, Oklahoma, the daughter of Wilson and Martha Martin McCune. She died on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at the Republic County Hospital in Belleville, Kansas at the age of 87 years, 6 months, and 28 days.
Opal spent most of her growing up years in Beloit, and married Roy Stoeber on December 24, 1944. To this union, two daughters were born, Sharon, and Nila Jean.
She was a kind, loving person, mother, grand mother, and a good nurse's aide.
Opal worked in the Cawker City Nursing Home, and when it closed, she worked at Hilltop Lodge in Beloit for several years, and then moved to Belleville in 1980, where she worked at the Lutheran Home until 1995, when she retired. In 2003 she went to live in the Belleville Health Care Center.
Opal enjoyed helping other people and always wanted to help the other residents in the home. She liked to work outside, raking leaves, or whatever she could find to do outside.
She was preceded in death by her husband Roy in March of 1978; her daughter, Sharon Peterson and her infant daughter.
Opal is survived by her daughter, Nila Skupa of Belleville; two brothers, Kenneth McCune and his wife Rosalie of Washington, and Claude McCune of Topeka; four grandchildren, Roger and his wife Tina, James and his wife Trisha, Lisa and her husband Jason, and Judy and her husband Craig; seven great grandchildren, Hadrian, Tristan, Faith, Makenzie, Trenton, Haley, and Vanessa; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be at 10:00 AM Monday, at the McDonald Funeral Home in Beloit with burial at Prairie Grove Cemetery, Cawker City. Visitation will be from 3:00 PM to 8:00 P.M Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Belleville Health Care Center.
