Ovetta Catherine (Kennedy) Mastin was born on November 10, 1919 in Arkansas City, Kansas, where she was raised. She died early Thursday, June 25, 2009 at her home in Beloit, Kansas at the age of 89 years, 7 months, and 15 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry Grover Kennedy and Agnes Aldice Kennedy, and her two brothers, Aldes Wray Kennedy and Donald LeRoy Kennedy.
Ovetta (Tiny) married Everett E. Mastin on November 11, 1943. They moved to Beloit, Kansas in 1946, where they have lived ever since.
Tiny was very active in community organizations, such as helping deliver and coordinate the delivery of Meals on Wheels for over 17 years, volunteering at the Mitchell County Hospital for 6 years, serving on the Mitchell County Election Board for 6 years, and helping with various other civic activities.
She was always active with her three daughters by serving as a Brownie Scout leader for 9 years, a Girl Scout leader for 1 year, a Sunday School and Bible School teacher for many years, and was an MYF leader for many years, and helped house Korean missionaries.
In more recent years, Tiny was chosen to give the first Titus Women's Group lesson at her church and then she ministered to many women on a one-on-one basis. She also participated in many bible study groups.
She was a host mother to AFS student Flor Vergara of Chile for 1 year, and has maintained continual contact with her, and was a landlady to many NCK Vocational Technical School boys for over 15 years.
Tiny was adored by, and adored her grandchildren and their spouses and her great-grandchildren. They were her pride and joy, and she was a great inspiration to them.
Her hands and heart were always busy creating for others through her painting, sculpting, crocheting, quilting, sewing, and various other crafting projects.
Tiny is survived by her husband, Everett of over 65 years; her daughters, Linda (Rob) Erickson, Jolene Mastin, and Charlene (Chuck) Prickett; three granddaughters, Tammy (Brett) Dorr, Amy Griffith, and Jennifer (Darin) Hecht; two step-grandsons, Ryan (Kelly) Erickson and David Erickson; five great grandchildren, Lauren Dorr, Alex Hecht, Aiden Griffith, Blake Dorr, and Braedyn Hecht; and two step great grandchildren, Brady Erickson and Tyler Erickson.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Monday, June 29 at the McDonald Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Beloit First Christian Church or Hillop Long-Term Care.
