Patricia "Pattie" Winkel was born January 11, 1945, at Beloit, Kansas, the daughter of Joseph and Bernice Kelley Duskie. She died October 25, 2009, at the Salina Regional Health Center at the age of 64 years, 9 months and 14 days.
Pattie graduated from St. Theresa's Academy in Cawker City in 1959, and then graduated from Sacred Heart Academy at Lisle, Illinois. She later took nurses training at the NCK Technical College in Beloit.
Pattie was married to Jerome "Jerry" Winkel on August 29, 1964, at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Cawker city and two sons and one daughter were born to that union. After their marriage, the couple lived in Cawker City until 2000, when they moved to Jerry's family farm near Glen Elder.
Pattie worked the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit for more than 30 years until her retirement in 2007. She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Church and the Ladies Guild and the American Legion Auxiliary. Her favorite pastimes were gardening, sewing and cross stitching and she also enjoyed games, especially dominoes, SuDoKu and crossword puzzles. She greatly enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren, traveling and collecting Precious Moments items.
Survivors include her husband, Jerry of the home; sons, Tony of St. Louis, Missouri, and Brian and his wife, Christine of Ashland; a daughter, Denise Arnold and her husband, Ben of Wichita; three brothers and their wives, Leonard and Virginia Duskie of Ionia, Wayne and Bonnie Duskie of Salina, and Jerry and Joyce Duskie of Lake City, Florida; and eight grandchildren, Savannah, Kaleb, Tasha and her husband, Kevin and their son, Kevin Allen, Christopher, Sierra, Brittany, Rally and Sloane; their Chilean AFS student, Liliana Diaz-Andersen and her daughter, Sofia; and many nieces and nephews.
Pattie was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Friday, October 30, at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Cawker City with burial in the church cemetery. A vigil service will be at 7:00 PM Thursday at the church. Memorials may be given to Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery.
