Paul Edward O'Hara, 70, passed away on November 21, 2012 at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. He was born May 16, 1942 in Elk City, OK to George Henry and Marie Jones O'Hara.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife of 50 years, Linda of the home in Beloit, KS; two daughters Angela Kreps (Jim), Overland Park, KS, Annett O'Hara, Topeka, KS; one son Dustin O'Hara (Audrey), Woodstock, GA, and daughter-in-law Angie O'Hara, Goodwell, OK; eight grandchildren Morgan Moriarty, Roeland Park, KS, Jami and Jordan Kreps, Overland Park, KS, Tyler and Haylee O'Hara, Goodwell, OK, Braden, Keegan and Chloe O'Hara, Woodstock, GA; two brothers Pat O'Hara (Laura), Edmond, OK, Robert O'Hara (Jimi), Elk City, OK; one sister Mary Ann Wynne (Richard), Grass Valley, CA; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son Rod O'Hara of Goodwell, OK, and his parents, George and Marie O'Hara of Elk City, OK.
Paul graduated from Elk City High School and on August 1, 1962 married Linda Sue Bizzell, Canute, OK. After graduating from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, OK as a Registered Pharmacist, Paul worked in Alva, OK and Liberal, KS before moving to Hugoton, KS in 1968 where he purchased and operated his own pharmacy for 26 years. In 1994 Paul and Linda sold the pharmacy and moved to Garden City, KS where they lived for 10 years while Paul served as a relief pharmacist for many rural Kansas communities. Paul and Linda moved to Beloit in 2004 where Paul continued to serve as a relief pharmacist until earlier this year.
A friendly, down-to-earth person, Paul never knew a stranger and made lasting friendships easily. He loved hunting, fishing and being outdoors. He loved shopping with his children and grandchildren and was a regular at the auctions. Paul had a special knack for gardening; he loved planting trees and could grow anything anywhere.
He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Beloit and the Robert F. Kennedy Council 1645 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Tipton. Paul was a Jaycee early in his career and also was a member of the Rotary and Lions Clubs in the communities he served.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, November 26, 2012 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with burial following in St. John's Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Paul O'Hara Memorial Scholarship Fund. Visitation will be from 1 PM until 4 PM Sunday at the McDonald Funeral Home. The Parish Vigil & Rosary will be held at 7:00 PM Sunday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
