Pauline L. Stouffer

March 2, 1915 — September 7, 2013

Pauline Louise Stouffer was born March 2, 1915 to George William and Anna Wilhelmina Hauptli Kohler on the Kohler homestead southwest of Glen Elder, Kansas. Her vibrant life of 98 years ended Saturday evening, September 7, 2013 at Salina Regional Health Center in Salina, Kansas.

She attended the Naomi grade school and graduated from Glen Elder High School in the Class of 1933.

After graduation, Pauline worked in the ASCS office in Beloit. The only cooling system was a large block of ice brought in every morning by the ice man; it was placed in a large tub with an electric fan behind it.

Pauline was quite active as a 4-H member and later a leader for several years.

It was on August 6, 1934 that she married David Frank Stouffer, another 4-H leader at the Glenview Friends Parsonage near Glen Elder. They began housekeeping on the Stouffer farm southwest of Glen Elder in the midst of the "dirty thirties" and grasshopper years. They were the parents of five children Donna Marie who died in infancy, four sons Ronald, James, David and Eldon, all who graduated from Glen Elder High School and faithfully served their country.

In 1964, Frank and Pauline left the farm because of the construction of Waconda Lake and they relocated at 615 North Poplar in Beloit.

Pauline worked beside Frank and different jobs he did. She learned to ride a bicycle after moving to Beloit and they rode many miles out in the country. In addition, she learned to crochet after moving to Beloit-making afghans for the grandchildren and then learned a new craft and began to quilt.
Her husband Frank died in 2001. In addition, she was preceded in death by her parents, one infant daughter Donna; one sister Lola Jones, and one grandson James Trotter.

Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life are her children Ronald Stouffer and wife Marcia of West Plains, MO, James Stouffer and wife Dorislea of Hays, David Stouffer and wife Janice of Assaria, Eldon Stouffer and wife Gladys of Salina; twelve grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren.

A gentle quiet home body, she was willing to do for others whenever she could AND the cookie jar was always full.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 AM Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at the McDonald Funeral Home with Pastor Carol Roth officiating. Burial will follow in Naomi Cemetery near Glen Elder. Memorials may be given to the Mitchell County Hospital. Pauline will lie in state from 1:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Monday at the McDonald Funeral Home.
