Peggy Darline VanWey was born on January 3, 1935 in Freeport, Kansas, the daughter of Paul and Dora Scovill Ryan. She died Friday, October 6, 2017 at Salina Regional Health Center at the age of 82 years, 9 months, and 3 days.
On January 15, 1956 she was united in marriage with Keith VanWey. Four children were born to this union. They were privileged to spend more than 42 years of marriage together until his death in October, 1999.
After their marriage, they moved to Jewell County to work the family farm, and in 2003 moved to Beloit. She worked at Barnett Manufacturing for more than 20 years until their closing, when she went to work at Hilltop Lodge as a CMA/CNA, before retiring in 2005.
Peggy greatly loved her tight-knit family, and enjoyed playing cards and dominos with them. Her church and religion were very important to her – she set aside 3-4 hours each day to read her Bible and Inspiration Book, and spent many years serving as a Sunday School teacher.
In her spare time, Peggy also enjoyed knitting and crocheting, and had a special place in her heart for big dogs.
In addition to her husband Keith, she was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Kathy Bushell; two sisters, Dorin Pinka and Mary Ryan; and two brothers, Dean Ryan, and an infant.
She is survived by her sons, Roger of Hutchinson and Alan and his wife Tanya of Clay Center; her daughter, Kelly Gormly and husband Mack of Beloit; 10 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; three sisters, Betty Dunlap and Nancy Witt, both of New Mexico, and Karen Ryan of Scott City; and a host of other relatives and friends.
