Phyllis Lorene Rountree was born January 15, 1924 to Eliga Lonzo and Louise Amela Siebold Ramey at Miltonvale, Kansas. She departed this life of 87 years, 7 months and 7 days late Monday afternoon, August 22, 2011 at her home in Glasco, Kansas.
Phyllis attended school in Miltonvale. She married LaVern Liby and to this union LaVerna, Lonnie, Bradley and Doug were born to this union which was later dissolved.
On October 4, 1974 she married James Rountree at Wichita, Kansas. They made their home in Wichita until 1999 when they moved to Glasco.
Phyllis was a restaurant cook for many years. She worked at the East Side Café in Glasco. While in Wichita, she was a cook for the Small Fry Grill.
A kind hearted, people oriented person, Phyllis was always there for her family. She was very resourceful and could do just about anything. Among her talents were sewing-making her own clothes and clothes for her family. She loved to cook, camp, go fishing, and just be with her large family.
Phyllis will be deeply missed by her husband James of the home, one son Doug Liby and wife Shelly of Glasco; stepchildren Debbie Camp and husband Scott of Raleigh, NC, Mark Rountree and partner Don of Austin, TX; 24 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, many great-great grandchildren and countless friends.
In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her daughter LaVerna Higle, sons Lonnie and Bradley Liby; grandchildren Cindy Duggan, Keith Higle; a beloved great grandson Samuel Hoesli, a great-great grandson Branton Hulsey and a great-great granddaughter Valoree Higle.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 AM Monday, August 29, 2011 at the Glasco Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7697 Hall with burial following in Glasco Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Solomon Valley Hospice. Visitation will be from 4 PM until 7 PM Sunday at the Dean Funeral Home, Glasco.
