Phyllis Joyce Wichers was born July 27, 1924 to Carl Curry and Rebecca Maude Elder Clark at Beloit, Kansas. She departed this life of 87 years, 2 months, and 18 days Friday evening, October 14, 2011 at Hilltop Lodge, Beloit, Kansas.

A lifelong resident of the Beloit area, Phyllis graduated from Beloit High School. Her childhood dream was to be a fashion designer and after high school she was accepted to go to Topeka to the National Youth Administration where she learned the basics of photography from A.D. Wichers and became a professional in lighting, camera room techniques and print finishing. It was there that she met her future husband Robert Anton Wichers and the two were married on June 25, 1944 at Russell, Kansas.

After her marriage, she came home to Beloit to live with her parents while Robert served in World War II. When he returned home, they started the Wichers Studio. In 1960 the Professional Photographers Color Corporation began operation in downtown Beloit and in 1967 moved to 527 Roosevelt Avenue.

Phyllis and Robert were blessed with four children Robert A. Jr., Joyce L., Rebecca A, and Van C. and made their home at 1508 North Hersey and in about 1963 made their present home at 404 North Campbell.

A crafty, artistic person, Phyllis was a person of great devotion to her family, profession, and community. She cherished her home and loved decorating it. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother who was always there for her family. Phyllis was a faithful member of Chapter K PEO, a past Worthy Matron of the Naomi Chapter 28 Order of Eastern Star, Qui Bene Club and enjoyed her membership in the First United Methodist Church. Quieter moments were happiest spent cross stitching, sewing and working in her rose garden. In later years, she and Robert enjoyed taking winter vacations together.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Rodger Clark, and one beloved granddaughter Amy Pearson.

Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life are her husband Robert A. Wichers of the home; children Robert A. Wichers, Jr. and wife Shirley of Beloit, Joyce L. Pearson and husband Dennis of Barnard, Rebecca A. Phillips and husband Kevin of Goddard, KS, Van C. Wichers of Beloit; one sister Carol A. Cook and husband Wayne of Towanda, KS; 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and many friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Glenn Fogo officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Solomon Valley Hospice, Chapter K PEO or First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 9 AM until 8 PM Tuesday at the McDonald Funeral Home.
