Ramona Rose Scott was born on July 30, 1929, at Linn, Kansas, to Ralph and Mabel (Fowler) Scott, and passed away November 15th, 2013, at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas at the age of 84.
She attended 1st and 2nd grade in Linn, before moving to Downs, Kansas, where her father was the depot agent for the Missouri-Pacific Railroad. During her high school years, she worked for her father, as well as being an usher at the Lido Theater, and a soda jerk at the local drug store. She was active in high school, participating in sports, music and cheerleading. She graduated with the class of 1947 and then became a nurse's aide at the Mitchell County Hospital. She met Warren Heller at a dance and they were married October 10, 1948, in Downs, Kansas. They made their home on a farm near Hunter. They celebrated 56 years together before Warren passed away in 2004. Warren and Ramona had four children: Melanie, Michael, Mark (Andy), and Margaret.
Music was a big part of Ramona's life. She loved to sing, dance, and play the piano and organ. She was an active member of Grace Chapel United Methodist Church in Hunter where she was the organist for over 50 years. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, who attended nearly all of her children and grandchildren's activities. She was active in UMW and 4-H. In retirement, Warren and Ramona, enjoyed traveling throughout the United States. In November of 2011, Ramona moved to Beloit where she was a resident of assisted living and later the Resident Care Center
Left to celebrate her life and mourn her passing, are her children: Melanie Rathbun (Delwin), Michael (Lucille), Andy (Susan), and Margaret Walter (Gaylon), sister-in-law Elinor Scott, 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and her dog, Charlie.
Ramona was preceded in death by her husband, son-in-law Lendon Ahlvers, and granddaughter Stacey Ahlvers.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 PM Wednesday, November 20 at the Hunter Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 8 PM Tuesday at the McDonald Funeral Home, with family present from 6-7:30 PM. Memorials may be given to the Church or the Mitchell County Regional Medical Foundation-RCC Unit.
