Ray Charles Rosebaugh was born on November 21, 1920 in Waterville, Kansas, the son of William I. and Vida Cammel Rosebaugh. He died Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas at the age of 98.
Ray grew up and attended school in Waterville, where he graduated from high school. Shortly after graduation, he was drafted to serve in the United States Army as a radio operator during World War II. During that time, he proudly earned six Bronze Star medals.
On June 6, 1946, Ray was united in marriage with Loraine F. Ost at her parents' home. One son was born to that union. They were privileged to celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1996, and spent more than 53 years of marriage together until Loraine's death in October, 1999.
Ray worked for more than 35 years for the Kansas Gas Company, and retired in 1984. During his "retirement" years, Ray was a devoted server and an invaluable employee to the Beloit First United Methodist Church well into his 90s. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening, woodworking, photography, and camping with his family. He was also a member of the Beloit Rotary Club, and served as a youth soccer coach.
He was ornery with a wry smile, but he was the definition of someone who showed unconditional and unjudging love upon others. He greatly loved his grandchildren, and supported them in all of their endeavors.
In addition to his wife Loraine, he was preceded in death by his parents; his son, David Wynn; his grandson, Walker Rosebaugh; brother, Glen Rosebaugh; and his sister, Dorothy Yungeberg.
Ray is survived by his grandchildren, John Rosebaugh of Kansas City, Jason and wife Katie Rosebaugh of Glasco, Jessica Rosebaugh of Beloit, Jared and wife Amber Rosebaugh of Boston, MA, and Chad Rosebaugh of Olathe; 16 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and his Church Family.
Funeral services will be at 10 AM Monday, September 30 at the Beloit First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 1-8 PM with family present from 5-7 PM Sunday at the Roberts Family Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to the Church or Solomon Valley Hospice.
