Raymond LaVerne Grittman was born June 30, 1934 in Mitchell County, Kansas, the son of Martin and Irene Sporleder Grittman. He died Sunday, February 13, 2011 at the McAllen Medical Center in McAllen, Texas at the age of 76 years, 7 months, and 13 days.
He grew up in the Beloit area and attended school in Beloit, before graduating from Beloit High School.
On January 8, 1955, he was married to Marjorie D. Henderson at Beloit. Two sons, Duane and Dan were born to this union and they made their home in Beloit. They were privileged to be married more than 53 years until Marjorie's death in December 2008.
Raymond served in the United States Army followed by time served in the reserves.
He was known as a hard worker – he worked as a road and bridge foreman for Mitchell County for 36 years. He also spent a lot of extra time working for DeWayne and Jed Black on their farm.
Raymond also greatly enjoyed camping and traveling around the country.
In addition to his wife, Marjorie, he was preceded in death by his parents.
Raymond is survived by his two sons, Duane and his wife Alice of Minneapolis and Dan and his wife Wanda of Cawker City; one brother, Richard and his wife Lorraine of Phoenix, AZ; two sisters, Charlene Robinson of Beloit and Marlene Neilson of Mankato; four grandchildren, Heather Jensen, Scott Hayden, Kim Steinert, and Rachel Rudd; six great grandchildren, Trinity Jensen, Casen and Cheyenne Steinert, and Kyler, Keegan, and Daytona Hayden; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Friday, February 18 at the McDonald Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 1-8 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Funeral Expense Fund.
