Rex H. Baird
Rex Hanson Baird was born July 16, 1910 to Albert Hanson and Bessie Irene Leach Baird on a farm near Hunter, Kansas. He departed this life of 95 years, 6 months, and 24 days late Thursday afternoon, February 9, 2006 at Hilltop Lodge in Beloit, Kansas.
A lifetime resident of the area, Rex attended school in Hunter and graduated from Hunter High School in the Class of 1929. He continued his education at Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas.
Rex, along with his brothers Don, Noel, Keith, and Sheldon Baird, proudly served his country during World War II. He served in the United States Army Air Corps as a Military Policeman and was stationed at McDill Air Force Base in Florida.
After his discharge, Rex returned "home" to farm. He loved farm work, and enjoyed working for several area farmers in the Hunter and Beloit area. He was no stranger to the long hours of hard work that his vocation demanded.
A kind, rather quiet person, Rex enjoyed his family. He was very fond of his niece, nephews, and their families and was always interested in their activities. He had a great memory and enjoyed visiting with his many friends. Rex was an avid sports fan.
He was a member of the Hunter American Legion Post No. 77.
