Richard Fredrick Diers was born January 10, 1914 to Carl Paul and Maria Christina Schurr Diers on a farm near Hunter, Kansas. He departed this life of 100 years, three months, and five days peacefully at his home on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 in Concordia, Kansas.

Richard was born and raised on the farm between Hunter and Victor, Kansas. Richard attended the one room VictorKansasPublic School through the eighth grade. He was baptized and was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Hunter.

On October 16, 1936, he was united in marriage to Edna Pearl Ault at Mankato, Kansas. This happy union was blessed with five children: Vera Mae, Jerry Lee, Roy, Carolyn, and Gerald. They made their home on a farm in the Blue Hill Community near Hunter, Kansas for several years. Together, the couple ran the Yorktown Mutual Telephone Company in Hunter for a number of years. In 1963, they sold their telephone business and moved to Clyde, KS where they owned and operated a milk route. In 1964, they moved to Concordia, sold the milk route and began working for Thoman Well Drilling and later for Constructive Playthings (CP Co.) until retiring.

Richard enjoyed traveling, camping, and family gatherings. His other hobbies included woodworking, op can craft, painting, machine quilting, and watching television.

Richard was a member of the ConcordiaLutheranChurch.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Edna Pearl; two children Jerry Lee Diers and Vera Mae Callihan; brothers Albert and Edward Diers; sisters Rosina Reich, Bertha Rooker, and Emma Haymond; and one great grandchild Lucas Schultz.

Left to mourn his passing and celebrate his life are: fiance' Rosella Hubert; daughter Carolyn Gendre and husband Ron of Concordia, KS; two sons Roy Diers and wife Charlene of Hastings, NE, Gerald Diers and wife Marla of Conroe, TX; two brothers Walter Diers of Cawker City, Herman Diers of Salinas, CA; 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren a host of many relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, April 19, 2014 at the McDonald Funeral Home with Pastor David Strommen officiating.  Burial will follow in the Greenwood Union Cemetery at Hunter, Kansas.  Memorials may be given to The Concordia Lutheran Church or Meadowlark Hospice.  Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. - 5:00 P.M. Friday and 9:00 A.M. until service time Saturday.
