Richard E. Golladay

Richard Elmer Golladay was born May 16, 1930 to Elmer Tracy and Sarah Bright Reist Golladay in Beloit, Kansas. He departed this life late Monday afternoon, October 15, 2012 at Salina Regional Health Center in Salina, Kansas at the age of 82.

Richard grew up on a farm between Beloit and Glen Elder. He graduated from Beloit High School in the Class of 1948 and pursued his lifelong love of agriculture at Kansas State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agronomy.

While at Kansas State, he met his bride of sixty years, Alice Ann Handlin and they were married on December 30, 1951. Their marriage was blessed with six children, David, Roy, Charles, Margaret Ann, Vernon, and Mary Alice.

Richard began his career as a County Extension Agent in Pratt, KS in 1957. He and his family later moved to Syracuse, KS where he served from 1958 until 1979. They then moved to Osborne, Kansas where he served until his retirement in 1995.

A friendly, congenial and people loving person, Richard could easily find the good virtues in everyone. He loved hunting and fishing and enjoyed gardening. One of his greatest joys each year was judging 4H projects. He taught Hunter Safety and was always proud of the unblemished safety record of his students. He also enjoyed teaching Tractor Safety.

Richard proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict as a radio operator and repairman.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Osborne, American Legion Post # 49 and the Cawker City Lodge #125 AF&AM.

Richard was preceded in death by his son David who lost his battle with leukemia in 1957. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother George, his sister Ella and his grandson Jason Golladay.

Left to mourn his passing and celebrate his life are his wife Alice Ann of the home; children Roy and wife Denise of Ionia, Michigan, Charles and wife Marsha of Lenexa, Kansas, Margaret Hartman and husband Curtis of Prairie Village, Kansas, Vernon and wife Gretchen of Auburn, Nebraska, Mary Hensley and husband David of Kansas City, Missouri; fourteen grandchildren and many friends.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, October 20 at the McDonald Funeral Home followed by burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 8 PM Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Osborne County 4-H Improvements.
