Richard Kobel

Richard Ferris Frew Kobel, age 77, of Camdenton, Missouri, formerly of Beloit, Kansas, passed away on September 5, 2025, in Columbia, Missouri. He was born on December 22, 1947, in Beloit, Kansas; a son of Robert LeRoy Frew and Louise E. Williams.

Richard served his country in the United States Marines for 22 years and held the rank of GySgt upon his retirement. He did a tour in the Vietnam War in 1967, and served with the 1st Battalion 9th Marine, known as "the walking dead". He loved serving his country. He was awarded several decorations, medals, badges and ribbons during his time of service: Combat Action Ribbon, Purple Heart Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Presidential Unit Citation; Letter of Appreciation, Sea Service Deployment ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal, RV Campaign Medal , Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Expert Badge Rifle, Expert Badge Pistol and Certificate of Appreciation.

Richard got a bachelor's degree in electrical Engineer at UMR - MO S&T. He taught math and electrical engineering. He was part of the Marine Corp mounted color guard during the 1970's and He was an avid scuba diver. He loved to travel, and some of the places he went was Ireland, Australia, Europe, and South America. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle and would go across country many times and also visited Sturgis. You could often find Richard reading a book, writing a book or editing a book. Richard's most treasured time was spent with his family and friends.

Richard is survived by his sons Shawn Kobel (Beth) of Camdenton, Missouri and David Kobel of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; his grandchildren Dylan Kobel (Krista), Brody and Karly Kobel, Kelsey Reitz, and Shawn Ritter; Arizona Eubank (Spencer), and Shane Michael Kobel; his sister Marlene Armstrong of Beloit, Kansas; his aunt Charlotte Swisher of Beloit, Kansas; Karl Williams (Sally) of Beloit, Kansas; numerous cousins; other relatives and many friends.

Richard was preceded by his son Shane Kobel; his granddaughter Ryleigh Kobel; his mother Louise Elizabeth (Neidig) Williams; and two uncles David and Richard Williams.

Visitation will be from 9-11 AM at the Roberts Family Funeral Home, followed by military graveside services at Elmwood Cemetery in Beloit at 11 AM on Saturday, October 25.
