Richard J. "Dick" Moritz was born September 30, 1937, the youngest child of Henry and Anna (Hake) Moritz in Mitchell County, Kansas. He died unexpectedly on Thursday, May 7, 2009 at the age of 71 years.
Dick was raised on the family farm north of Tipton, Kansas and attended St. Boniface Grade School and Tipton High School, graduating in 1955.
Dick was united in marriage to Rita Mick on July 24, 1965 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Cawker City. To this union one daughter Cinthia Lynn was born.
Dick was employed at Barnett Manufacturing Company in Cawker City, and later at Sunflower Manufacturing in Cawker City and Beloit, retiring in December of 2007.
Dick was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, having served as a Eucharistic Minister, groundskeeper, and member of the cemetery board. Dick was also a member of the Knights of Columbus council 1868 in Cawker City.
Dick enjoyed woodworking in his shop at home producing many craft works and yard decorations for his and Cindy's homes, allowing an ever-changing parade of whimsical creatures as the seasons progressed.
Dick also shared a devotion to the purple and white of Kansas State University with his daughter Cindy, and had amassed a large collection of K-State items. Dick was not a fair weather fan, and was proud to display his Wildcat pride regardless of how the teams were performing.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Alice and Dorlyn; and four brothers, Norbert, Louis, Francis, and Harry.
Left to mourn his passing is his wife, Rita of 43 years, and his daughter, Cindy Moritz of Cawker City; one brother, Charles and wife Natalie of LaValle, Wisconsin; along with several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral Services will be at 9:30 AM Monday, May 11, at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Cawker City with burial at St. Boniface Cemetery in Tipton. A vigil service will be at 7:00 PM Sunday at the Church.
