Robert W. Emmot

October 14, 1924 — October 31, 2006

Robert William Emmot was born October 14, 1924 to Alfred and Carrie Irene Wrench Emmot on a farm near Beloit, Kansas. He departed this life of 82 years and 17 days Tuesday evening, October 31, 2006 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas.

"Bob", as everyone knew him, spent his entire life living and farming in the Beloit area. He graduated from Beloit High School.

It was on April 30, 1944 that he married Donna Dean Clark at Beloit. Two sons John and Dan were born to this union. Following their marriage, they lived on the family farm before moving to their new home, built by Bob, five miles south of Beloit.

Farming was a natural for Bob. After all, in 1924, his father purchased the first John Deere tractor in Mitchell County, and he always relied on John Deere green to get the job done. During his life, he saw many changes and improvements and strived to be on the cutting edge of more advanced practices; he was awarded the Kansas Bankers Award for soil conservation. He also worked in the Soil Conservation Office.

During the "off" months, he kept busy with his second love of carpentry and construction. He worked with Ralph Haigh and was involved with construction of numerous homes and buildings in the Beloit area. He loved all phases of construction and was never satisfied until the customer was.

Bob's family was extremely important to him. He helped Donna with her business of selling Stanley Home Products and as her illness progressed, was always there by her side. He loved baking and always had a fresh loaf of bread for the family Sunday Dinner. He doted on his grandchildren and great grandchildren, always having an endless supply of licorice for them.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church and was a faithful listener of the Sunday Radio Broadcast. He also served on the Farmway Credit Union Board of Directors.

His wife Donna died in March, 2004. He was also preceded in death by his parents.

Left to mourn his death and celebrate his life are his children John Emmot and wife Glenice of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Dan Emmot and wife Drusilla of Beloit; one brother Leo Emmot and wife Faye of Beloit; four grandchildren Christine Elam and husband David, Bob Emmot, Justin Emmot and wife Tammy, Carrie Weidner and husband Kile; four great grandchildren Caden Emmot, Kiran Elam, Addison Emmot, Xander Elam, and a host of many relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 PM Friday, November 3, 2006 at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Ken Parker officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Church Radio Broadcast Fund or the FFA. Friends may call at the McDonald Funeral Home on Thursday from 11:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M.
