Robert W. Guipre, Sr.
Robert William Guipre was born August 16, 1924 to Joseph William and Lillian Lee Covington Guipre on a farm near Simpson, Kansas. He departed this life of 87 years peacefully Tuesday evening, December 6, 2011 at home in Plano, Texas.
Bob, as everyone knew him, grew up in the Simpson community and graduated from Simpson High School. He continued his education at Kansas State University and then was called to serve his country in the Navy during World War II. After his military service, he resumed his education at KSU and received his degree in Electrical Engineering. He then went to work for Geo-Physical Services, Inc.
On November 24, 1948 he married Marie Alice Simons. Their union was blessed with two sons Robert, Jr. and Richard, and twin daughters Pamela and Paulette.
Bob lived a very busy life. He was passionate about his work and lived in a number of locales including Kansas City when he worked for Bendix Corp. He joined Phillips Petroleum in 1956, moved to Denver, Colorado and became a geophysicist and traveled the world over in search of oil exploration and development opportunities. He moved to Plano, Texas in 1998.
Besides work, Bob loved playing golf and dancing. More relaxing moments were spent tinkering with and driving his cars.
He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seaton Catholic Church, VFW, American Legion and Society of Exploration Geophysicists.
His wife Marie died in 1993. In addition, he was preceded in death by his parents and brother Jim Guipre.
Left to celebrate his life are his children Robert W. Guipre, Jr and wife Jewel, Richard Guipre all of Plano, Texas, Pamela Schoen and husband Jeff of Pocatello, Idaho, Paulette Bowman and husband Marc of Park City, Utah; a sister-in-law Lois Guipre-Simoneau of Beloit, 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and many friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 PM Monday, December 12, 2011 at the McDonald Funeral Home with Father Joseph Kieffer officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery near Jamestown. Memorials may be given to Solomon Valley Hospice. Friends may call at the McDonald Funeral Home from 1:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Sunday.
