Robert H. Shelton

Robert Henry Shelton, 77, died Thursday, January 10, 2008, at his home west of Randall, Kansas.

"Bob", as he was known by all, was born November 1, 1930, at Ionia, Kansas to Manuel and Ruby Violet Mullin Shelton.

He served in the United States Air Force from January to October of 1951, being honorably discharged following the death of his father in a farm accident. After the service, he worked at various jobs and for the Army Corps of Engineers on the construction of Lovewell Reservoir. He farmed near Randall for many years, raising livestock and crops. In later years, he operated Shelton Trucking for over 25 years. While in Randall, he was active in the community, serving on the Volunteer Fire Department and several terms on the Randall City Council.

On November 28, 1957, he was united in marriage to Irene Byers Elniff in Smith Center, Kansas. Three children Jay, Kevin, and Cindy were born to this union which was later dissolved.

On December 28, 1985, he married Mary Lou Shamburg in Beloit, Kansas.

Bob loved the outdoors and enjoyed having animals around to watch and care for. He fed both domestic and wild birds. He also enjoyed hunting and was a supporter of the National Arbor Day Foundation.

He was a member of the Kansas Livestock Association and the Kansas Motor Carriers' Association. He was a 57 year member of the American Legion Post 57 of Beloit.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two half-brothers Jack and Ulrich
Shelton; one brother Beryl Shelton, and two brothers-in-law Dean Barrett and Virgil Drees.

Survivors are his wife Mary of the home, three sons Ron Elniff and wife Heidy of Concordia, Jay Shelton and wife Pam of Norton, Kevin Shelton and wife Myrna of Randall; two daughters Marlene Kenyon and husband Alan of Liberty, Missouri, Cindy DeLeon and husband David of Randall; three step-sons Curtis Shamburg and wife Dee of Portis, Kevin Shamburg and wife Joleta of Salina, Kirby Shamburg and wife Colleen of Randall; three brothers Dick Shelton and wife Sharon of Rogers, Arkansas, Warren Shelton and wife Shirley of Unionville, Virginia, Frank Shelton and wife Thelma of Jewell; two sisters Donna Drees of Carmichael, California, Betty Barrett of Jamestown; one half-sister Audilee Muir of San Antonio, Texas; 26 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday at the McDonald Funeral Home Rev. Fred Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in the Randall Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association. Friends may call from 1:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Sunday at the McDonald Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:30 P.M. until 7:30 P.M.
