Roberta Joanne Porter was born on July 15, 1936 in Stockton, California, the daughter of Emmett and Gertrude Kearns. She died on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at Hilltop Lodge in Beloit, Kansas at the age of 77 years, 2 months, and 13 days, with her grandson, Jonathan by her side.
Bobbye, as she was known, grew up in Stockton, and briefly moved to Glen Elder. She later moved back to Stockton in the mid 1960's, and later to Lodi, California before returning to Glen Elder in the late 1990s with her son.
She loved family unity, enjoying many family dinners and activities, and she greatly loved her grandkids and great grandkids. She also enjoyed following her beloved Kansas City Royals.
Bobbye was involved in the Friends Church, and volunteered her time at the Glen Elder Senior Citizens Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Steve in 1981; her sister, Dorothy Lock; and two brothers, Emmett and Terry Kearns
Bobbye is survived by her son, Ernie Porter and his wife Michelle of Glen Elder; one sister, Patricia Leonardini of Stockton, CA; four brothers, Richard Kearns and wife Judy of Stockton, Jerry Kearns of Stockton, Bill Kearns of southern California, and Mike Kearns and wife Nellie of San Francisco; three grandchildren, Michael Jorrick, Tina Patterson, and Jonathan Turner; three great grandchildren, Dylan Patterson, Ryann Patterson, and Brooklyn Turner; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Thursday, October 3 at the Glen Elder Friends Church. Visitation will be from 11 AM to 8 PM Wednesday at McDonald Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to the Funeral Expense Fund.
