Roberta Stone

March 24, 1916 — June 25, 2008

Roberta Stone died June 25, 2008 at her home at Hilltop Lodge in Beloit. She was 92.

Lois Roberta Rust Stone was born March 24, 1916 in Washington, Kansas to Charles E. and Lois Bradshaw Rust. She attended grade school in Washington and graduated from Manhattan High School in 1934. In 1938, she received her Home Economics degree from the Kansas State College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences.

On June 15, 1941 she was united in marriage to Billy Neil Stone of Hiawatha, Kansas. After her husband graduated from dental school, the couple moved to the San Francisco area where Lieut. Stone was stationed for the remainder of World War II.

In August of 1946, the couple moved to Beloit, Kansas where they would live for the rest of their lives.

She was a teacher at Beloit High School, the former president of Chapter K of PEO, a member of Ad Volens, a proud and active K-State Alum, a lifetime member of Kappa Kappa Gamma and a strong supporter of both the arts and the athletics at Beloit High School. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Beloit for more than forty years, and since the closing of St. Paul's, enthusiastically attended First Christian Church in Beloit.
Additionally, she was a member of the Beloit Country Club for more than sixty years.

She and Dr. Stone, who passed away in 1994, enjoyed duplicate bridge, traveling the Americas in their RV, and visiting their countless friends.

She was preceded in death by two sisters Helen Rust Diepenbrock in 1966 and Amy Louise Rust Partner in 2006.

She is survived by her daughter Nancy of Fitzwilliam New Hampshire and partner, Dr. Leonard Bloksberg; her son David and wife Joyce of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; three grandchildren Mark Goldman and wife Sandra of Philadelphia; Karen Huber and husband Bob of Philadelphia; Claudia Brown and husband Keith of Scottsdale, Arizona, and seven grandchildren.


Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday at First Christian Church with Pastor Dave Mealiff and Rev. Ann Nelson officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Port Library or Charity of the Donor's Choice. Friends may call from 1:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Sunday at the McDonald Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:30 P.M. until 7:00 P.M.
