Rod Tilton

February 9, 1942 — November 11, 2013

Edward Rodney Tilton was born to Edward Wayne and Laura Nadeen Marty Tilton on February 9, 1942 in Beloit, Kansas and went to be with the Lord on Monday, November 11, 2013.

Rod, as everyone knew him, grew up in the Pleasant View community south and west of Beloit. He attended a one room school until high school when his family moved into Beloit. He graduated from Beloit High School in the Class of 1960.

He attended Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina where he met Katherine "Katy" Elliott, and they were married on August 8, 1965 in Kansas City, Missouri. Four children blessed this union: Russell, Leslie, Jerrod, and Heath.

Always a farmer at heart, he spent many hours tending his cattle. His hobbies included hunting and fishing in his younger years as well as going on many camping trips.

Rod worked for Boettcher Enterprises for 43 years. He was in the first EMT class in Mitchell County and volunteered on the ambulance for over 20 years. He was a reserve police officer for the City of Beloit and worked once a week in that capacity for about 25 years. He was an active member of the Glen Elder Christian Church for 10 years and was currently attending the New Life Assembly of God Church in Beloit. Rod served in the National Guard and had the honor of assisting in Abilene for the funeral of former President Dwight Eisenhower.

One of Rod's childhood dreams was realized when he and Katy moved into their "house on the hill". Although he was a quiet man, Rod was very caring, loving, and supportive.

Rod was preceded in death by his parents and one infant son Jerrod.

He is survived by his wife Katy of the home; children Russell Tilton (Linda) of Scott City; Leslie (Greg) Wohler of Manhattan, Heath Tilton (Sarah) of Denver; one sister Joyce Adamson and husband Pat of Wichita; grandchildren Jamie, Melanie, Christina and Eddie Tilton; Tyler and Nick Wohler and Theresa and Anthony Hubert; many relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, November 15, 2013 at the McDonald Funeral Home with Pastor Cal Swickard officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery. Memorials may be given to New Life Assembly of God or the American Diabetes Foundation. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until 8:00 PM Thursday with the family receiving friends from 5:30 PM until 6:30 PM .
