Dr. Rodney K. Lowery

Rodney Kent Lowery was born 27 August 1929 at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri to William Allen and Hazel Francenia Menefee Lowery of Blackwell, Oklahoma. He departed this life of 78 years, 6 months, and 10 days on Thursday 6 March 2008 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas.

After graduating from Blackwell High School where he was a National Honor Society Student and lettered in track, he did his undergraduate work for a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology at the University of Oklahoma. He was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity as his father and grandfather before him. He attended the Northwestern University School of Dentistry in Chicago where he became a Doctor of Dental Surgery. He later took a two year residency in General Dentistry as he always wanted to practice family dentistry in a small town.

He was drafted into the U.S. Army Dental Corps as a Lieutenant and rose to the rank of Full Colonel. As well as his stateside services, he served three years in Germany, two and one-half years in Alaska and one year in Vietnam.

On 2 March 1958, he married Daisy Clarice Collum of Mobile, Alabama in Bad Cannstatt-b-Stuttgart, Germany where they were both stationed, and to this union was born their only child, Gayle.

Dr. Lowery received his honorable discharge and in September, 1973 he established his dental practice in Beloit, Kansas and retired on 31 December 1993. During this time, he served as Secretary, Vice President, and President of the regional Dental Society.

Rodney was an avid reader, loved Classical music and good literature. He enjoyed fishing, upland game hunting, and tennis most of his life, and also enjoyed gardening.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dr. Larry L. Lowery.

Survivors are his wife Daisy of the home, their only child Gayle Lowery of the home; two grandchildren Amy and Eric Platter of the home; one sister Molly Hook and husband Jack of Longview, Texas, along with several nieces and many friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday,10 March 2008 at the McDonald Funeral Home. Private burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Ducks Unlimited, and friends may call from 1:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Sunday at the McDonald Funeral Home.
