Ronald "Ron" Eugene Kelley was born on May 6, 1951 in Colby, Kansas, the second of five children to Vernon and Phyllis Heagney Kelley. He died Thursday, September 14, 2017 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas at the age of 66 years, 4 months, and 8 days.
Ron attended schools in Fredonia and graduated from Fredonia High School in 1969. He went off to college and was soon drafted to serve in the United States Army after his first year. Following his service, he joined the Tulsa Police Department in 1972, and served as an officer and detective for 10 years, when he was shot in the line of duty, and retired. He returned to college, where he earned his master's degree. He went on to work as a teacher, principal, and superintendent in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Caldwell, Lindsborg, McPherson, Belle Plain, and Jewell, Kansas, and retired after 20 years in education.
Ron enjoyed using his spare time to restore cars, and greatly enjoyed carpentry, building, and construction. And in the last couple of years, he enjoyed driving the school bus for Beloit schools.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Patrick.
Ron is survived by his wife Jean of the home, and her children, Angela Snapp, BJ Snapp and his wife Katie, and Christy Robinett and her husband Dave, all of Salina; grandchildren, Braxton and Brady Snapp, and Allison and Riley Robinett; his brother Mike and his wife Terry of Wichita, his sister Lori Fike and her husband Kevin of Russellville, Arkansas, and brother Rob and his wife Erin of Texarkana, Texas; and a host of other relatives and friends.
