Rose Marie Dean

October 11, 1917 — November 7, 2006

Rose Marie Dean, daughter of Edward and Mabelle Claire Van Denbark Schoen, was born October 11, 1917 on a farm north of Cawker City, and departed her earthly life in the home of her son Douglas in Linwood, Kansas early Tuesday, November 7, 2006 at the age of 89 years.
Rose Marie lived with her family on the Schoen family homestead on Oak Creek. She attended Evans Rural Grade School and Cawker City High School, graduating with the class of 1935. Upon graduation, she received a Normal Training certificate and taught in one-room schools, Evans and Fairview, in Mitchell County.
During the summer, she attended Grand Island, Nebraska Business College and then worked in the Mitchell County courthouse as an assistant to the County Superintendent of Schools for two years.
On January 5, 1939, she was united in marriage with Hershal "Bill" Dean at the Presbyterian Church in Salina. One son, Douglas, was born to this union. They made their home in Glen Elder for 43 years, and then moved to their home in Cawker City in 1982. Due to failing health, they moved to an assisted living home in Eudora to be closer to their son, where he lovingly cared for them. They were privileged to spend 64 years together until Bill's death in November 2003.
Rose Marie was a member of the United Methodist Church, O.E.S. Naomi Chapter #28, and the Outlook Club.
She was a homemaker, and loved to share her beautiful home with family and friends. She also loved reading and writing, and in 1952 she wrote a history book about her grandfather and his travels to Kansas.
Rose Marie was a lovely, meticulous lady who carried a firm belief in her Lord, and cared deeply for others.
In addition to her devoted husband, Bill, she was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Maxine Murphy; and her daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Dean.
She is survived by her son, Douglas H. Dean of Linwood; one granddaughter, Denise Dean Nelson and her husband Leonard of Walnut Creek, CA; three step-grandchildren, David Gardner and his wife Phyllis, Robert Gardner and his wife Mitzi, and Karen Mills and her husband Russ; a nephew, Richard Murphy; eight great grandchildren; and others who loved her very much.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Friday, November 10, 2006 at the United Methodist Church in Cawker City and burial will be at Glenwood Cemetery in Glen Elder. Memorials may be given to the Church. Visitation will be from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM Thursday at Waconda Funeral Home.
