Rosemary Doxon was born April 5, 1920 to John Edward and Grace Virginia Woodard McKelvey at Kansas City, Kansas and died on Monday, February 15, 2016 at Hilltop Lodge in Beloit, Kansas at the age of 95 years, 10 months, and 10 days.
Rosemary and her family moved to a farm in the Miltonvale community when she was very young. She graduated from Clay Center High School. Shortly thereafter, she moved to Dayton, Ohio with her sister Ruth Phillips and worked in a factory making parts for the military. They later moved to Cincinnati, Ohio where she attended nursing school. Following graduation, she worked in obstetrics at the Miami Valley Hospital for a while and then returned to Beloit and lived in the Nurses' Home at the Beloit Community Hospital.
On July 6, 1949 she married Harold Conley, and during the 1950's she proudly served as a Registered Nurse at the Beloit Community Hospital. They moved in 1959 to Phillipsburg and onto Boulder, Colorado where she continued her nursing career.
Harold died in 1964 and she returned to Beloit and served as the school nurse. When the nursing program at the North Central Kansas Area Vocational Technical School began, Rosemary taught the first LPN course and continued teaching until marrying Lyle Doxon in 1971 in Formoso. During their married years, she practiced her nursing career at the Jewell County Hospital in Mankato. She retired in January, 1985 and Lyle passed away in 1986. She lived in Jewell until moving to Beloit.
Besides her career as a Registered Nurse, Rosemary genuinely lived her faith and was a devout member of First Presbyterian Church in Beloit. Rosemary had great knowledge of the Bible.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, sisters Juanita Bohning, Ruth Phillips, Bell Gruver; one brother Edward McKelvey, and two infant siblings Geraldine and Newton McKelvey.
Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life are many nieces and nephews including Darrell and Shirley Conley who have served as her caretaker.
