Rosemary R. Morris

December 1, 1917 — October 7, 2013

Rosemary Ruth Morris, 95, passed away October 7, 2013 in Beloit, Kansas.

Rosemary was born in Lewistown, Montana on December 1, 1917 to Clarence H. and Edna F. Swartz Higinbotham. After her father's death in the flu pandemic of 1918, Rosemary, along with her mother and older brother moved in with her maternal grandparents in Beloit, Kansas.

Rosemary graduated from Beloit High School in 1935 and went to work for the Beloit Gas Service Company. During World War II she worked as a classified personal secretary for an Army colonel at the Sacramento Army Depot, in Sacramento, California until the war ended.

On October 22, 1945, Rosemary married Dan Morris in Reno, Nevada. They returned to Beloit, Kansas to make their home and start a new family.

In addition to being an excellent mother and homemaker, Rosemary worked as an elementary school aide, Sunday school teacher, Brownie Scout leader, and secretary to a local abstract realtor. But the job she enjoyed the most was working at the Port Library, first as a children's and then as the head librarian.

Rosemary was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church, a women's afternoon circle, a 50 year member of the local chapter of P.E.O. and was a member of the local AdVolens chapter for over 60 years.

Rosemary's hobbies included reading, collecting antique, sewing, decoupage painting, and home decorating. She played golf and was "quite the bowler." Rosemary's interest in bridge introduced her to a number of lifelong friends. Her kitchen was always open for coffee, and many friends and acquaintances dropped by to share personal stories and life experiences. She also loved caring for her dogs, Tracey, Corky, Laddie, Casper, and Toby.

Rosemary is survived by her son Jeff Morris of Bozeman, Montana and her daughter Marcy, and her son-in-law Dennis Reinecker of Shawnee, Kansas.

As per Rosemary's request, there will be no Memorial Service. Her body will be cremated and her ashes dispersed in the mountains outside of Lewistown, Montana.

Those who wish to honor her memory may send donations to the Post Rock Humane Society, P.O. Box 131, Beloit, Kansas 67420 or to the First United Methodist Church, Attn: Radio Ministry, P.O. Box 482, Beloit, Kansas 67420.

Arrangements were under the care and direction of the McDonald Funeral Home, Beloit.
