Jewell

Roy William Arasmith, 74, of Jewell, Kansas, passed away on December 7, 2024 after an extended battle with cancer.

He was born on May 19, 1950 in Beloit, Kansas to Kenneth Lyle and Noma (Knowlton) Arasmith.

Roy grew up on the family farm southwest of Jewell. He attended the Prairie Plain country school (District 24) for 5 years until it closed, then attended Jewell Grade School and Jewell High School, graduating with the class of 1968. Roy furthered his education at the North Central Kansas Area Vocational Technical School at Beloit, graduating from the Farm Mechanics and Diesel Mechanics departments. After graduation, he helped his dad on the farm and in the mechanic shop. Roy worked for Mitchell County Rural Water District #3 for nearly 25 years, and came to know many people throughout the area. He later worked part-time for the City of Jewell, where all the dogs in town looked forward to receiving a dog treat from him. During these years, Roy volunteered numerous hours teaching Hunter Safety Education to many of the youth in the area.

Roy married Amy (Amalie) Wilson on August 1, 1970 at the Ionia United Methodist Church. To this union, two boys were born, Jason William and Brian Steven. He was proud of his sons and enjoyed watching them play sports, trap shooting, hunting, and of course, doing mechanic work. Roy's daughters-in-law, Billi and Kristi meant the world to him, he referred to them as his daughters. Another joy was his grandchildren: Jarrett, Grant, Alexis, and Logan. Through the years, he took them to toy shows and engine shows, challenged his granddaughter to learn the alphabet backwards, and taught each of them to drive while out on country roads.

Those who knew Roy could always plan on him telling a joke, he didn't know a stranger, and would talk at length to anyone who would listen.

One of Roy's favorite hobbies was exploring cemeteries with his wife in search of white bronze (zinc) tombstones. Many miles were covered and hours spent looking for them. He was also an avid toy collector.

Roy is survived by his wife Amy of the home; sons, Jason (Billi) Arasmith, Jewell, KS, and Brian (Kristi) Arasmith, Beloit; grandchildren, Jarrett (Britt) Arasmith, Jewell, Grant (Jess) Arasmith, Jewell, Alexis Arasmith, Chicago, IL, and Logan Arasmith, Hays, KS; brothers-in-law, Kevin Wilson and Kirk Wilson, Ionia, KS, Roger (Jamie) Rooker, Beloit; nephew, Eric (Elaine) Rooker, Topeka; and a special new addition to the family, great-granddaughter, Blake Marie Arasmith, Jewell; and many other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be at 11 AM Friday, December 13 at the Jewell Trinity Methodist Church. Friends may sign the register book from 9 AM to 5 PM Thursday at the Roberts Family Funeral Home. Cremation has taken place. Memorials may be given to Lake Emerson - Jewell or the Rebecca Morrison House - Salina.
