Roy Dale Timbers, 83, was born on a snowy night north of Glen Elder January 12, 1932 to Dwight and Ethel Timbers. He left this life at his home north of Glen Elder on February 27, 2015.
Roy graduated from Glen Elder High School in 1951. On June 29, 1952 Roy was joined in marriage to Dorothy Bowman. To this union two children were born, Roy "Vann" in 1953 and Betty Kathryn in 1955.
Roy served in the Army during the Korean War. Upon returning home, he raised cattle, farmed, and raced and showed quarter horses with his father. At this same time, he joined in partnerships with his brother-in-law "Bill" Eberle in the Timber and Eberle Livestock and "Bob" Acre in the Glen Elder Livestock Ranch.
In 1958, Roy started his career as a sale barn owner, first in Mankato, then later in Osborne, which he operated for over 25 years.
Roy enjoyed the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. His family and his grandchildren were the only things that surpassed his passion for a Rocky Mountain elk hunt, or his cattle.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, and infant brother, Robert, a sister, Betty, and his beloved children, Vann and Betty.
Left to celebrate his life are his wife for 63 years, Dorothy; his sisters, Bernice Lilly and husband Keith, Bernita Eberle, Bonnie Newell, and Berta Moss and husband Dan; grandchildren, Cade Timbers, Thane Timbers and his wife Angie, Cianna and husband Hadrian, Craig Lund, and Brady Lund. He will also be missed by a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Visitation will be from 9 AM to 4 PM Tuesday at the McDonald Funeral Home & the public is invited to join the family from 6-8 PM Tuesday at the Glen Elder United Methodist Church. A private family graveside service will take place later. Memorials may be given to Solomon Valley Hospice or the Salina Rescue Mission.
