Ruby Ruth Gholson Christy File was born on March 8, 1919 in the Plum Creek Township, northeast of Beloit, Kansas in Mitchell County to James S. and Ava Bowker Gholson. She died Sunday, September 9, 2007 in the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit at the age of 88 years.
Ruby attended Plum Creek School District 17, and graduated from Beloit High School in 1937.
On August 17, 1942, she married Paul G. Christy. They were privileged to spend nearly 20 years of marriage together until his death in 1961.
Ruby's early working years were spent in the business world as a clerk and office employee before spending her later years as a farmer's wife.
On October 18, 1969, Ruby married Melvin C. File. She had been reared on a farm, and was a willing helper for Melvin when needed.
She loved gardening and working in her yard. Her home was her most loved interest and she greatly enjoyed fixing family meals. She also enjoyed the Senior Citizen Center, and served there as their secretary for several years.
Ruby was a member of the Beloit First Christian Church.
In addition to her first husband Paul, she was preceded in death by her parents; her second husband Melvin File in 2002; her brother Ora; and her sisters Viola Nye and Doris Helmbrecht.
She is survived by her sister Norma Stroh and her husband Alfred; nephews David Stroh and Lindsay Stroh; a great nephew Chris Helmbrecht; a great niece Angela Engelbert and their families.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 PM Wednesday, September 12, at the McDonald Funeral Home with burial at Elmwood Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the First Christian Church or the Beloit Senior Center. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM Tuesday at the McDonald Funeral Home.
