Ruth Elizabeth Kadel was born January 22, 1917 to James Arthur Porter and Pearl Muck Porter on a farm Southeast of Glen Elder Kansas. She departed this life of nearly 93 years at Mitchell County Hospital Health Systems early Wednesday morning December 23, 2009.
Ruth grew up on a farm near Glen Elder and attended rural grade school nearby. She graduated from Glen Elder High School at the young age of 16 in the class of 1933.
After graduation, Ruth stayed home and helped her mother cook and sew for her father and brothers. She met a young man from Hunter Kansas named Ogden Kadel and they were united in marriage at Beloit, Kansas on May 9, 1937. They lived with Ogden's parents for a short while and then moved to their farm near Victor, Kansas where they raised wheat and cattle as well as owned a construction business with Ogden's brother Frank. Two sons, Jim and Larry were born to this union of 65 years.
Ruth was a member of Pleasant View United Methodist Church, Beloit Country Club and a former member of the Kummunity Kulture Klub. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ogden, brothers Ralph, Homer and Robert, two nieces and one nephew. Survivors include son Jim and Wife Karol, Larry and wife Sharon of Beloit; grandchildren Mike Kadel and Phillip Williams, San Rafael ,California; Barry Kadel and wife Melinda, Smithville, Missouri; Buffy True and husband Mark , Salina, Kansas; Dan Kadel and wife Tara, Beloit, Kansas. Also surviving are Great grand children Kade, Kyle and Kray True and Karington and Kaylyn Kadel; sister-in-law, Geneva Porter, Glen Elder, Kansas and a special cousin Kay Graeber and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Monday, December 28 at the McDonald Funeral Home in Beloit followed by burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 PM to 8 PM Sunday, December 27 at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the First Christian Church or the Mitchell County Regional Medical Foundation.
