Ruth Alice Rhodes was born January 21, 1920 to Albert and Mae Thornton Applebee at Jewell, Kansas. She departed this life of 89 years, 8 months, and 29 days Monday evening, October 19, 2009 at the Republic County Hospital Long Term Care Unit in Belleville, Kansas.
A lifetime resident of Jewell County, Ruth graduated from Randall High School.
On July 24, 1938 she married Clarence Rhodes. Three children Kay, LaWanda, and Bill were born to this union.
Ruth and her family made their home in Randall. She was a very compassionate and giving person who enjoyed working as a Nurse's Aide at Cheyenne Lodge Nursing Home in nearby Jamestown. When not at work, Ruth enjoyed taking care of her home. Above all, she was always there for her family and cherished her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
She was a faithful member of the Randall Community Church where she was always willing to help with dinners. In addition, she enjoyed her membership in the Concordia Moose Lodge.
Her husband Clarence died in 1990. Ruth was preceded in death by two daughters Kay Hyman in 2000, LaWanda Webb in 2002, and her siblings.
Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life are her son Bill Rhodes and wife Penny of Great Bend, Kansas; a brother-in-law Joe Anderson of Randall; grandchildren including Lana LaCost of Belleville, Rhonda Webb of Belleville, Stacy Bates of Belleville, Scott Webb of Platte City, Missouri, Miranda Garcia of Hutchinson, Lyndel Theis of Pratt, Lance Rhodes of Great Bend, Robin Gonzalez of Great Bend, Shane Hyman of Salina, Melissa Ruiz of Salina; 29 great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren and many relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, October 23, 2009 at the Randall Community Church with burial following in Randall Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the funeral expense fund. Friends may call from 9:00 AM until 8:00 P.M. Thursday at the McDonald Funeral Home.
